The Summer term begins 2nd May 2022 (a Bank Holiday but The Bridge will be open for classes) - View the Schedule
This Summer, for 6 Tuesdays starting on 26th July, Ginny Whittle will be running a Summer Course for watercolour students of all abilities.
Summertime is the time to get to grips with working outdoors directly from nature.
JMW Turner, John Constable, the Impressionists and many others worked outdoors, "En Plein Air" as it is termed.
The direct response to the landscape engages the mind. It is true "mindfulness" in its approach engaging the hand, eye and brain in a synergy with such a pleasing result. It can therefore be so relaxing producing a much greater degree of creativity.
During the Tuesday evening sessions we will look at the many contemporary painters who worked outdoors, refering back to their techniques and works to produce our own fresh works of art.
Depending on the weather and on sufficient demand from those attending on Tuesday we may then meet up for the day on various Saturdays to visit some of the sites and landmarks visited by Turner, plus other places which can be inspirational to creativity. There will be a small additional charge for these days out and you will need to provide yourself with suitable clothing and footwear for the weather and location plus your own drinks, refreshments, lunch, etc. We will discuss these possible days out in more detail on the Tuesday evenings, agreeing additional details such as meeting places and shared transport arrangements.
See the course page on our website for full details.Return to News
