Important announcement about closure due to Coronavirus Read the June update
An update about the continued closure of The Bridge during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Whilst The Bridge remains closed volunteers are working to ensure that the buildings, equipment and grounds are being properly looked after ready for use again once it is possible to reopen. The Trustees also meet regularly using video conferencing to ensure that the latest regulations and advice are reviewed with regard to the impact of them on The Bridge. Our insurers have also been very helpful by providing up to date advice and making templates for revised policies and procedures available to us.
Funding is continually being sought to support both the ongoing costs of maintaining The Bridge and to pay for some alterations which will be needed to ensure we comply with new legislation and Health and Safety advice relating to Covid-19. There has been success with some bids and others have been submitted and are currently being reviewed, Key work we are looking to have done whilst closed is to install sinks in the Top Studio and Corner Studio and to change carpet flooring to vinyl flooring throughout. Both of these will help with staying in line with latest advice about regular hand washing and cleaning of all surfaces. We are also looking at the Studio layouts and control of movements in the corridor in order to maintain the latest advice on social distancing. It may be that some of the advice and regulations we are working to will change again before we reopen and if this happens we will adjust things as needed.
All of this is being done so that once it is possible to reopen we will be as ready as we can be to help classes and groups get back to meeting in The Bridge. Once a date is agreed we will put the news on here and our Facebook page as well as emailing directly those who are on our email list.
If you have any queries or would like to be added to our email list please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message on our voicemail on 01325 243864. It may take a bit longer than usual to respond but we will do so.
If you would like to make a donation please use the link on our webpage or send a cheque made out to The Bridge Centre for Visual Arts by post to The Trustees, The Bridge Centre for Visual Arts, Yarm Road, Darlington, DL1 1ED.
Thanks to our volunteers who are helping look after The Bridge during this period of closure and to our landlords, Darlington Borough Council who have been very supportive.

The Bridge provides a vibrant community led venue to support artists and encourage visual arts involvement for Darlington. Many artists who had a presence at the Darlington Arts Centre can now be found at The Bridge Centre. It is also the home of other arts-based organisations.
